TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The U.S. Border Patrol says one of its agents fired a gun at a marijuana smuggler on Tohono O’odham Nation land.

The encounter occurred late Tuesday afternoon near the village of Cowlic as border agents were tracking a group of smugglers.

The Border Patrols says agents were assaulted with rocks as they approached the smugglers.

The agency says no injuries were reported and that the smugglers were taken into custody and their marijuana bales have been seized.

The shooting is under investigation.
