MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) - A search has resumed for a man who went missing in the ocean off Southern California while swimming with friends.

Los Angeles County lifeguards say there were strong rip currents along Manhattan Beach when the man was reported missing Tuesday evening.

Lifeguards and Coast Guard crews scoured the coastline until the search was suspended because of darkness. The search resumed at dawn Wednesday.

Friends and family tell reporters the missing man is a 25-year-old resident of Hawthorne in Los Angeles County.
