CONROE, Texas (AP) - Investigators say four people have been killed and four seriously hurt in a fiery head-on crash north of Houston.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the accident happened late Tuesday afternoon in Conroe.

Trooper Erik Burse says authorities are trying to determine what caused the collision on FM 3083 between a pickup truck and an SUV. Burse says the truck went into oncoming traffic and hit the Chevy Tahoe.

The truck carried five people. The SUV had a driver and two passengers. DPS says both drivers were among the four people who died at the scene.

The four survivors - all children - were transported to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.

Names of the victims weren’t immediately released.
