COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A former Ohio State University student has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a case police say may have been a place of misplaced revenge and mistaken identity.

Twenty-four-year-old Alexander Delap was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 years behind bars in the stabbing death of 21-year-old John Snyder. Delap’s trial had already started when he changed his plea to guilty.

Police say Delap confronted Snyder and another person on March 1, 2015, because Delap thought Snyder’s friend attacked one of his friends earlier in evening. Authorities say Snyder’s friend and Delap began fighting and Delap stabbed Snyder in the neck when he got in between them.

Snyder, who died later at a hospital, told police he and his friend were in the area but weren’t involved in the fight.
