DETROIT (AP) - An Ecorse man charged in the slaying of a 3-year-old Detroit girl has been found dead in his jail cell.

The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report that 24-year-old Paul Kendall was found hanged Wednesday.

The Wayne County sheriff’s office says in a statement that “it appears the death was the result of Kendall taking his own life.”

Kendall faced murder and other charges in the March 27 fatal shooting of Anaiya Montgomery and wounding of two other men during a home invasion.

Also charged in the case are 19-year-old Reginald Street and 30-year-old Jonathan Burks.

Kendall was due back in court on June 17. His death is being investigated by Detroit police.
