WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 76-year-old passenger on a small plane that crashed shortly after take-off in central New York has died.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s office says James Kasperski of Rome died in a hospital on Tuesday night. He suffered burns and other injuries when a small plane crashed in Westmoreland on Monday night, shortly after taking off from a small airstrip.

The pilot and another passenger also were injured. Residents near the crash aided the victims and helped douse flames on one of them.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by federal officials.
