CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Two officials with a Charlotte payroll services company have been sentenced for stealing more than $2 million from their clients.

The Charlotte Observer reported (https://bit.ly/20WImLG) that the president and chief financial officer of CenterCede Services Inc. were sentenced in federal court in Charlotte on Tuesday.

Company president Jerry Wayne Overcash was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

Chief financial officer John Bernard Thigpen was sentenced to nearly two years in prison.

The men were also ordered to pay $1.3 million in restitution.

Prosecutors say CenterCede was started in 2010 to assume business operations of another payroll services company that Overcash and Thigpen ran. That company, The Resource Solutions Group, was closed by the IRS for failing to pay more than $9 million in federal payroll taxes collected from clients.
