SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a body was found along a riverbank in South Charleston.

Multiple news agencies report South Charleston police say kayakers discovered the body Tuesday evening along the banks of the Kanawha River.

Officials haven’t released any other details surrounding the discovery, beyond saying that the body is that of an adult.

South Charleston police Lt. P.C. Rader says the body was decomposing.

Police are working with the medical examiner’s office to identify the body.
