RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Richmond man who police believe may be linked to several heroin-related overdose deaths has been arrested.

Local outlets report 41-year-old Elbrendel Edwards was arrested Monday and charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Richmond police spokeswoman Susan Rowland said in a statement Tuesday that officials are confident Edwards will be linked to several fatal heroin overdoses in the Richmond area.

His arrest comes as part of a months-long investigation.

Greg Cherundolo, a Richmond Drug Enforcement Administration agent, says search warrants were executed at two Richmond homes Monday, including one that was Edwards’ primary residence.

Rowland says Edwards was found with a firearm and a half-kilogram of heroin when he was arrested. Police found two other firearms during the search.

It isn’t clear if Edwards has an attorney.
