AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Congressman Bruce Poliquin says he is opposing the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal between 11 Pacific Rim nations and the United States.

Poliquin, a Republican representing Maine’s 2nd District, said Wednesday in a video statement that he’s been pressured by “powerful interests down in Washington” to support the trade deal but he’s concluded that it would not be in interest of workers in the district.

Poliquin is in a tough re-election race against Democrat Emily Cain, whose opposition to the trade deal has helped her win support from unions in the district.
