LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police say an elderly man was killed after being struck by a car.

Authorities say the incident happened around 10 p.m. Friday in the area of East Bonneville Avenue and 8th Street.

According to preliminary evidence, the 71-year-old man was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk in a dimly lit area.

An unidentified vehicle hit the victim, forcing him to the ground.

He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police say the driver didn’t call 911 or stay at the scene.

The man’s identity has not been released.

He marks the 38th traffic-related fatality this year for police.

The collision remains under investigation.
