CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say the body found inside a car submerged in a lake in Abbeville County is a man missing for nearly 16 years.

Deputy Coroner Ronda Nance said in a statement that dental records helped identify John Dubose at Monday’s autopsy.

Dubose disappeared in September 2000. Authorities say his body was found Saturday in the front seat of a Chevrolet submerged in Lake Russell spotted by a fisherman near a boat ramp south of Calhoun Falls.

Dubose was last seen driving a Chevrolet.

Nance says Dubose’s autopsy found no trauma to his body, and his cause of death is undetermined while authorities await alcohol and drug testing results.

Deputies are also investigating the death.

The vehicle was spotted after dry weather made the lake’s water level lower than normal.
