BELTON, S.C. (AP) - The pilot of a small plane has died after crashing into a field in Greenville County.

Coroner Kent Dill tells local media that the crash occurred Sunday evening east of Belton. Officials say witnesses reported that the plane’s engine stalled and the plane went down in a large field.

The coroner’s office identified the pilot as 62-year-old Bruce Ryskamp. He was the only person on board and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials aren’t sure where the plane began its flight.

The crash is under investigation by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, the National Transportation Security Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
