CENTERVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A man accused of burglarizing a Centerville family’s home and throwing a hammer at a police officer has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

WMAZ-TV reports (https://on.wmaz.com/1VN9Gx0) that a Houston County jury on Friday convicted William Ellerbee on several charges, including aggravated assault and burglary.

According to a news release from District Attorney Georgia Hartwig, in February 2015 Ellerbee broke into the home. Three family members hid in the house’s garage until police arrived.

The release says Ellerbee struggled with three officers and threw a hammer at one before they used a stun gun on him.

Also according to the release, Ellerbee testified he was high on drugs and wanted police to kill him.
