BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont police say a Burlington man is charged with a hate crime after they say he pointed what appeared to be a gun at woman wearing a hijab and called her a terrorist.

Burlington police arrested Michael Kochalian at his residence Friday in connection with the incident that happened Tuesday on North Champlain Street. They say they did not find a gun during a search of his residence.

Kochalian is charged with disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancement. He is in custody on $500 bail.

Authorities say an eyewitness description led police to Kochalian, who is known to them.

Police say Kochalian has an extensive criminal record and history of profane and aggressive outbursts.

It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
