ROGERS, Ark. (AP) - A Benton County sheriff’s deputy has resigned a day after being arrested for public intoxication.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Keshia Guyll told reporters that deputy Sergio Vazquez resigned Monday.

Vazquez was arrested Sunday night after being found passed out in the passenger seat of a car that was stuck in a muddy field.

Police say Vazquez told an officer that he had left a party after an argument and got into the car with a woman who offered him a ride. He said he asked the woman to take him home before he passed out.

Police say Vazquez awoke when an officer shined a flashlight into his face.
