LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) - An inmate has died at the state prison in Lancaster and his cellmate is considered a suspect in his death.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said 44-year-old Porfirio Castro was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday.

An autopsy was under way to determine the cause of death.

Prison officials said Castro had been in prison since October 2013, and was serving a six-year sentence for second-degree robbery.

His cellmate, 47-year-old Robert Vasquez, was serving a life sentence for first-degree burglary. He’s being segregated from other inmates pending an investigation into Castro’s death.
