SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man was critically injured when his pickup truck went over an embankment, fell about 300 feet and ejected him into the Spokane River.

Spokane Police say the man was driving the truck Monday afternoon near Kiernan and Northwest Boulevard when it swerved across the road and over the embankment.

Two people who witnessed the incident ran down after him and pulled him out of the river. Police say medics took him to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The man was working as an employee of the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department at the time of the crash.

Authorities are investigating the cause. The man’s name hasn’t been released.
