FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Students from Northern Arizona University spent spring break in Cuba, marking the university’s first study abroad trip to the country.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1RUwA0L ) that nine design students went to Havana days before President Barack Obama to study Cuba’s architecture. Students stayed in Cuba for seven days and earned a one class credit as part of a special topics class.

NAU has never before sent students to Cuba, despite educational activities being on the list of acceptable reasons to travel to the country for years. Recently those travel restrictions were loosened.
