MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Robert Bentley is sending a few helicopter pilots from the Alabama National Guard to Arizona help federal authorities secure the U.S. border with Mexico.

Bentley said in a statement Tuesday that Alabama will send a UH-72 helicopter and three pilots to Marana, Arizona, at the request of the National Guard Bureau.

The governor says the Alabama Guard pilots will deploy immediately and remain in Arizona through September. Their job will be to assist civilian law enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol agents tasked with border security.

The Army National Guard says its citizen-soldiers have been helping with border patrol duties for more than 20 years.
