JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - Jackson-based Allegiance Health is becoming part of Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System and is getting a new name.

The health systems announced Tuesday that they’ve completed regulatory approvals and finalized a definitive agreement to combine. Under the change, Allegiance Health’s 475-bed system is getting a new name: Henry Ford Allegiance Health.

The plans were announced last year. Henry Ford Health System says the agreement will allow it to offer health care in more communities beyond southeastern Michigan.

Under the plans, the partnership will invest $300 million in the Jackson community and surrounding areas over the next five years. The health systems say the investment will be used for new facilities, information technology and other new programs and services.

Henry Ford is a five-hospital system with numerous other locations.
