ELKINS, W.Va. (AP) - Police in Elkins are looking for a man involved in a scuffle with an officer.

Elkins Police Chief Craig Cross tells The Inter-Mountain (https://bit.ly/1Sye0sR) that while responding to reports of gunfire Monday, Senior Patrolman K.A. Shiflett stopped a man who matched the description of a subject. While Shiflett searched him, the man removed a handgun from his right pocket and tried to turn toward the officer. Shiflett disarmed the man, who then fled on foot. The man’s identity wasn’t immediately determined.

Cross said officers then found another male who shot himself in the groin, apparently while trying to put another gun in his waistband. The male, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police determined both guns were taken from the same stolen vehicle.
