KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) - The family of a mentally ill man who died in jail is expected to file a lawsuit this week seeking $30 million in damages.

The Tri-City Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1PS54MY) 26-year-old Mitchell Campbell died two days after his July 2014 arrest.

Lourdes Medical Center, the Pasco Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Pasco are included in the impending lawsuit, which also names Police Chief Bob Metzger and former Sheriff Richard Lathim.

Officials declined to comment.

Attorney George P. Trejo Jr. argues Campbell was schizophrenic and shouldn’t have been released from the hospital prior to his arrest. He had been experiencing seizures and was admitted for abusing substances including methamphetamine.

Trejo also says Campbell was not given medical or mental health treatment while in jail.
