JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Meridian man has been arrested on one count of child exploitation.

Attorney General Jim Hood says 32-year-old Eric Smith was arrested late Monday at his home by investigators with his office’s cybercrime unit. Hood, in a news release, says it was discovered through an investigation that Smith was allegedly downloading images and videos of child sexual abuse.

Smith is being held at the Lauderdale County Jail. No bond has been set at this time.

If convicted, he faces up to 40 years behind bars.
