WESTLAKE, Ohio (AP) - A 57-year-old doctor is heading to prison after prosecutors say he peddled thousands of prescriptions from a northeast Ohio clinic.

Cleveland.com reports (https://bit.ly/1qmzlzl ) Ronald Celeste was sentenced Monday to three years behind bars. He pleaded guilty to 35 counts of drug trafficking in February.

Prosecutors say Celeste wrote 33,000 prescriptions for OxyContin, Percocet and other narcotics between 2009 and 2011. Investigators say he handed out prescriptions indiscriminately in large quantities.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney James Gutierrez says Celeste’s patients came for drugs, not for medical care.

Celeste agreed to forfeit his medical license when he pleaded guilty.
