RICHARDTON, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers are focusing on school bus safety in the Richardton area.

The patrol is bringing its “Trooper on a Bus” campaign to the area on Wednesday.

The program involves troopers riding on buses to observe traffic violations that occur around the buses and radio the information to officers in squad cars who make traffic stops.

A motorist who fails to stop for a school bus can be fined $100. So can the registered owner of the vehicle.

The program has been used throughout the state in recent years to raise awareness.
