SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say a Utah woman hit a highway patrol trooper in the nose and knocked off his glasses when he tried to arrest her.

The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/1qpmxbx) that 23-year-old Amber Patten ran away when the trooper tried to arrest her after a traffic stop on Sunday.

Police say the trooper caught up with her, but when he tried again to handcuff her she hit him.

The St. George woman had been pulled over for having an expired registration, but a records check showed there was a warrant out for her arrest and her driver’s license was suspended.

Patten is now facing new misdemeanor charges, including assaulting a police officer.

Her lawyer did not immediately return a call seeking comment on the case.
