LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) - In a story April 4 about a prison guard being stabbed, The Associated Press reported erroneously that a Florida Department of Corrections spokesman identified the wounded corrections officer to The Miami Herald. The newspaper learned of the guard’s identity from another source.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Prison guard stabbed at north Florida facility

LAKE CITY, Fla. (AP) - Officials say a corrections officer was ambushed and stabbed at a north Florida prison.

The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/in1RaZ) reports 41-year-old Shane Biancaniello was airlifted to a Gainesville hospital Monday afternoon. His injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.

Florida Department of Corrections spokesman Alberto Moscoso says the guard suffered “superficial” wounds, and two other guards suffered minor injuries during a melee at Columbia Correctional Institution, a maximum security facility in Lake City.

Authorities haven’t said how many inmates were involved.
