SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah state senator has deleted a racially charged tweet he made about the players in the men’s basketball NCAA championship.

Sen. Al Jackson, a Republican from Highland, tweeted during the Monday night game that it was “Nice to see two cut teams compete void of tattoos and nappy heads.”

Jackson, who is black, later deleted the tweet and made his Twitter account private.

He did not return messages from The Associated Press on Tuesday but told The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/1N6G8lc) that he didn’t intend to hurt anyone’s feelings and was making an “honest observation.”

Jackson is not running for re-election this year.

He announced last fall that he will be moving to Virginia to be closer to family and his teenage son, who will be playing basketball for Duke University next season.
