SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - About 74,000 Utah residents registered to vote or updated their information during caucus week.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/1MQE0Dn) state elections director Mark Thomas says those numbers are higher than ever for that week.

Data does not include people who registered to vote March 22 at neighborhood caucus meetings.

Utah Democratic Party executive director Lauren Littlefield said voter registrations were a breath of fresh air after caucus night difficulties that included long lines and limited ballots.

Utah GOP executive director Bryan Smith said Republican voters were motivated to cast ballots for their first choice for the nomination as well as against the candidate they liked least.

Voter turnout did not reach the level seen during the 2008 election.
