WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) - Attacking midfielder Daniel Didavi will join Wolfsburg on a free transfer from Bundesliga rival Stuttgart next season.

Wolfsburg says the 26-year-old Didavi, whose Stuttgart contract expires at the end of this season, has signed a deal to 2021 with the Volkswagen-backed club.

Didavi, who scored 24 goals in 77 Bundesliga games for Nuremberg and then Stuttgart, says it was “the most difficult decision in my whole life.” Stuttgart tried hard to keep the midfielder, whose 10 goals and five assists have helped give the side some breathing space in its fight for Bundesliga survival. The club is six points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining.

Wolfsburg, seventh in the Bundesliga, is hosting Real Madrid for the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday.
