NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two teenagers have been arrested following the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Ashland City man outside a south Nashville Hooters restaurant in an apparent attempted robbery.

Metro Nashville Police announced on Tuesday the arrest of 18-year-old Lorenzo Montelier-Avila and a 17-year-old boy in connection with the Saturday night shooting of Hagan Newland.

Police say Newland was shot in the head and died of his injuries early Monday.

Authorities say Newland came to Nashville to participate in a drug deal. He was counting money inside a car when witnesses say three gunmen tried to rob him.

The victim was a member of the Cheatham County High School football team.

Investigators say they are still pursuing leads in the case.

It is unclear whether the suspects have attorneys.
