ASHFORD, Ala. (AP) - A California-based clothing company plans to open a distribution center in southeast Alabama, creating at least 100 jobs.

The Dothan Eagle reports (bit.ly/1VwmgPd) Next Level Apparel will convert a vacant building once used for textile manufacturing in the city of Ashford into its new East Coast distribution center.

Matt Parker, president of the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, says the company, which produces blank shirts for screening or embroidering, will receive state tax incentives. Local governments in the area have also promised $150,000 in improvements.

Plans for the center include doubling the size of the existing building to at least 120,000 square feet.

Local officials say the announcement brings some good news to Ashford, 12 miles east of Dothan, after the recent closing of the city’s Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market store.
