ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - State Rep. Mike Gambrell of Honea Path is the winner of the state Senate District 14 GOP runoff election.

Media outlets report Gambrell received about 58 percent of the vote on Tuesday to defeat Williamston Town Councilman Rockey Burgess in the district in Anderson, Greenville and Abbeville counties.

Gambrell has no opposition next month in the special election to fill the unexpired term of the late of Sen. Billy O’Dell who died in January.

Gambrell and Burgess meet again in June in the GOP primary for a full Senate term. The winner of that primary then faces Williamston Democrat Mark Powell in November.
