CASTLE HAYNE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after human remains were found near Castle Hayne in New Hanover County.

Lt. Jerry Brewer of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office tells local media outlets a trucker discovered the remains in woods in the area around midday on Tuesday.

Brewer says investigators believe the body had been decomposing for more than six months. The initial investigation shows the remains to be those of a white man.

There was no immediate evidence of foul play at the scene.
