COWPENS, S.C. (AP) - The Spartanburg County coroner is investigating after a human skull and other bones were found by a creek in Cowpens.

The skull was found last week and in statement Tuesday, Coroner Rusty Clevenger told local media outlets that an extensive search along the creek found additional bones.

The coroner says the remains are those of a white man about 50 years old. He says it’s not known how long the remains were in the creek.

The coroner says he has asked for medical records from North Carolina which he says should help in making a positive identification.
