HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Police in Huntsville say a 911 call that promoted evacuations at an apartment complex and mobilization of SWAT team members appears to have been a hoax.

WHNT-TV reports (bit.ly/1RXCPRB) police received a call Tuesday night that a man had possibly shot his mother at the Glenview Apartment complex. Police responded by evacuating residents as a safeguard and sending SWAT officers to the apartment from which the shooting had been reported.

Huntsville police Lt. Stacy Bates says the resident of the apartment had no idea what was going on and police found no sign of a shooting.

Bates says investigators are working to determine who placed the 911 call. The person responsible could face criminal charges for false reporting.
