PHOENIX (AP) - The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has named Shelby Scharbach as interim county manager.

County officials are conducting a nationwide search to find a replacement for longtime county manager Tom Manos to oversee the day-to-day operations of Arizona’s most populous county.

Manos announced in February that he was retiring as of May 1.

Scharbach has been serving as assistant county manager and was named the county’s chief financial officer in 2009.

She also serves as executive director of the county’s Industrial Development Authority and has worked for the county since 1993.

Maricopa County is home to more than 60 percent of the state’s population and employer to more than 13,000 workers.
