NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a man accused of snatching a cellphone from a 13-year-old boy was hit by a subway train as he tried to flee on the tracks in Queens.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the man took the cellphone on an M train and punched a man who tried to intervene just after 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The man then fled onto the tracks where he was sideswiped by an F train.

The 33-year-old man was found lying on the track and was taken to a hospital in stable condition with scrapes and bruises. Authorities didn’t immediately identify him but say charges are pending.

The incident sparked massive delays in subway service between Queens and Manhattan.
