GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Investigators with the N.C. Department of Insurance say 10 Pitt County residents are accused of being part of a staged auto accident ring.

WITN-TV in Greenville reports (https://bit.ly/2aXvS3j) investigators say the group staged seven different vehicle crashes between April and August of last year so they could defraud approximately $25,000 from seven insurance companies.

One of the 10, 42-year-old Jacinda Gethers Best of Greenville, was also charged with misdemeanor child abuse for taking her minor daughter to the hospital for medical care and testing when she had no need for treatment.

Authorities say nine of the residents were arrested last month and are looking for the 10th person.
