HOUSTON (AP) - In a story Aug. 1 about an 11-year-old boy accidentally shooting himself, The Associated Press, relying on information from the Houston Police Department, reported erroneously that the boy had died at a hospital. Department spokesman Victor Senties says the boy was alive and in critical condition as of Monday, and that as of Tuesday, there were no indications that had changed.

An 11-year-old boy has accidentally shot himself with a gun at a Houston home, the third such incident in the area in recent days

HOUSTON (AP) - An 11-year-old boy has accidentally shot himself with a gun at a Houston home, the third such incident in the area in recent days.

Houston police say that following the shooting Sunday night, the boy was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition Monday. Police are investigating.

Police told the Houston Chronicle (https://bit.ly/2apjNIr ) that the boy got his uncle’s gun and was wounded in the neck.

The Brazoria County sheriff’s office says a 7-year-old boy shot himself in the head Thursday after getting the key to a locked gun cabinet and getting a revolver in Alvin, located south of Houston. He’s expected to recover.

A boy believed to be 5 died after shooting himself July 26 at a Houston-area home. Harris County sheriff’s office deputies said it appeared to be accidental.
