FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Law enforcement authorities have identified the man who died after he was struck by a train in downtown Fargo on Sunday.

The Fargo Police Department on Monday said the man was 61-year-old Wendell Decoteau.

Police say the Fargo man was struck around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Police say an eastbound train had just cleared the intersection, when a westbound train approached the area. Police say the westbound train struck Decoteau, who was approaching the tracks from the south at that point.

Authorities say the crossing arms were down at the time, and the BNSF Railway freight train hit its brakes and sounded a horn but couldn’t stop in time.

Decoteau was pronounced dead at the scene.
