NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) - Officials are warning of delays for travelers on Interstate 26 heading from Spartanburg to Columbia because of emergency bridge repairs.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation said road crews closed one lane of eastbound I-26 near mile marker 81 east of Newberry Sunday night to repair the deck of the bridge over the Palmetto Trail.

The DOT says it plans to finish the repairs by Friday.

About 42,000 vehicles drive on that part of I-26 each day.

Several other bridges in the state have had to close in the past few years for similar repairs
