MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A spokesman for Democratic Senate candidate Russ Feingold says Republican Sen. Ron Johnson should withdraw his support of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

The push comes after Trump disparaged the bereaved parents of U.S. Army Capt. Humayun Khan, a Muslim who was awarded a Bronze Star after he was killed in 2004 in Iraq.

Feingold spokesman Michel Tyler said Monday that “our gold star families should be honored, not slandered again and again by Donald Trump.” Tyler says “enough is enough” and Johnson should denounce Trump and withdraw support.

Johnson issued a statement on the issue Monday where he did not mention Trump by name.

Johnson says Khan and all “Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country deserve our deepest respect and gratitude.”
