WINOOSKI, Vt. (AP) - The first part of a challenging and ambitious project to relocate a historic 19th century home from Winooski to Burlington was completed without incident over the weekend.

Workers spent hours loading the 1840s house onto a flatbed truck to haul it just 500 feet down the road to a gravel parking lot in Winooski. The former Cameron family home will remain at the lot until it’s moved to Burlington on Aug. 6.

Project manager Nate Dagesse, of Williston-based Dagesse Co., says a lot of technical work went into Sunday’s move, including several frequent stops along the way to ensure that everything was running according to plan.

Dagesse says the new owner of the home acquired it for free, but incurred more than $100,000 in moving costs.
