PITTSBURGH (AP) - The pilot of a small plane that burned after landing at the Allegheny County Airport last week has died in the burn unit of a Pittsburgh hospital.

The county medical examiner says 53-year-old Ira Saligman, of Wayne, Pennsylvania, died at 11:53 p.m. Sunday at UPMC Mercy hospital.

The plane was reported on fire about 9:30 a.m. July 25 at the airport in West Mifflin.

Airport officials say there was no indication of an emergency when Saligman radioed that he was going to land. Federal Aviation Administration crews in their airport tower spotted the fire and notified the pilot.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
