GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - Officials say a suspect has been taken into custody in the stabbing death of a Greenwood woman.

Greenwood City Police Capt. Mitchell McAllister tells media outlets that Minnie Rankin was arrested and charged with murder in the death of 39-year-old Andrea Dannielle Paxton.

The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office says Paxton was stabbed multiple times early Sunday morning.

McAllister says Paxton was wounded after a fight broke out a home. He says the fight was in reference to an assault earlier in the evening.

Paxton was taken to a hospital, where she died.

McAllister says Rankin was also charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the incident. It isn’t immediately clear if Rankin has an attorney.

The investigation is ongoing.
