INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say an officer shot a man who refused to comply with his orders to stop and wouldn’t let the officer see his hands.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Kendale Adams says a man in his 30s sustained a non-life threatening wound about 3:45 p.m. Monday on the city’s south side and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital.

Adams said the officer was responding to a woman who called police and said her mentally unstable son was threatening “suicide by cop.” Adams said when the officer arrived, the man came toward the officer in a threatening manner and had his hand wrapped in some sort of cloth. Adams said the officer fired one shot. Adams wasn’t sure where the victim was struck.

Police are continuing to investigate.
