DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The executive editor of The Des Moines Register has been promoted to a new position with Gannett.

The Register announced Monday (https://dmreg.co/2aDvJn0 ) that Amalie Nash, its executive editor and vice president for news and engagement, has been named Gannett’s west region executive editor. The Register is owned by Gannett, a media company based in McLean, Virginia.

In her new role, Nash will oversee about 50 news organizations in the Midwest and West. She will work with East Region Executive Editor Manny Garcia.

The location of Nash’s new job hasn’t been determined.

Nash came to the Register in 2014 from the Detroit Free Press, where she was assistant managing editor for metro-state news.

Register news director Carol Hunter will work as interim editor until Nash’s replacement is hired.
