BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police say they’ve opened a homicide investigation after an officer on patrol saw a man lying on his stomach and bleeding from the back of his head.

Police say 21-year-old Calvin Foster of Birmingham was pronounced dead shortly after he was found with a gunshot wound around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say it wasn’t immediately clear what led up to the shooting, but they say there’s evidence pointing to possible illegal drug activity.

Officers took several witnesses in for questioning. No one was in custody as of late Tuesday night.
